THIS WEEK IN THOUGHT
2008-08-05 16:11:41
I’m trying to do more blogposts.

So every Monday/Tuesday, I'll post the top seven things I thought about over the past weekend (as you know, weekends are a time to reflect while eating chicken and watching old movies).
This may seem boring...but you're reading my blog. You're SUPPOSED to be bored.

1. GEORGIA BULLDOGS
Yeah, my team’s Mississippi State, but I’ll root for any SEC team (except Alabama). They’re preseason college football #1, they’ve got a new bulldog mascot (UGA VII), players are getting arrested on a daily basis, the coach is a blowhard...I LOVE THIS TEAM.

2. BRETT FAVRE – he he he he he.
This is why I love being from Mississippi. We’re really really dumb, and we use that to our advantage. Ol’ Brett didn’t realize that retiring four years in a row doesn't instill a lot of confidence, and so he couldn’t understand that a multimillion dollar organization would be irked that he left them blowing in the wind for half a decade.
So he keeps saying he wants to play (“Brett want play,” is the exact quote, I believe), turns down TWENTY-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS to NOT play, gets the commissioner on his side, then shows up in Green Bay, ready to take reps. God bless you, you graying hick of a man.

3. THANK YOU FOR SMOKING
Hadn’t seen this movie since it was in the theaters (and I couldn’t really concentrate because my girlfriend at the time snored all the way through it). But I’d watched "Juno" 6 times last weekend, and figured I’d re-see this’un, in honor of Jason Reitman’s pretty-coolness. Great movie, watched it twice.
But, as with everything, subtracting Katie Holmes from the whole affair would be a huge improvement (see "Dark Knight" and every movie that she's not been in for reference). I wonder what it would’ve been like to watch a double bill of "TYFS" and "Dark Knight" with her in it, to see two different versions of Aaron Eckhart attempting to woo Mrs. Cruise while she went about sucking the life out of every scene she was in. We'll never know...

4. DEATH PROOF
Have you seen this thing? The extended edition that feels about 96 hours long? What a load of something I can’t say on a family blog. Ugh. Foot fetishes and what’s-his-name from "Overboard" eating a disgusting pile of nachos. I rented it for free and STILL demanded my money back. So I stand corrected: Tarantino CAN make a boring movie.

5. CLOAK & DAGGER
Valerie D’Orazio and I had a lovely chat at the end of last week (after all the hubbub of the series announcement, and sussed out a bunch of stuff for the first C&D issue. And now I’ve got a page-by-page for the first issue! Am happy.

6. COMIC BOOK CLUB
I’m a guest on this podcast thingy tonight, alongside Chris Giarrusso. I’ve been spending the day thinking about whether to primarily talk about '90s DC Comics, or just make fun of Chris for being incredibly slow and moving every three months. It’s five hours before taping as I type this, and I’m still not sure which way to go...

7. MINI MARVEL DIGEST
…and speaking of my favorite slow/obsessively-in-transit writer/artist, let’s give it up to GIARRUSSO for having such an amazing product, JEN GRUNWALD for putting together such a fun collection with lil’ extras that made me get all giggly, DAVID GABRIEL for crafting such a clever little marketing scheme, and ME…for annoying the crap out of everyone until this thing finally existed.
THIS PUPPY SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How I Hurt Ares This Week coming tomorrow.
Death Proof...
Wow, I'm the only one commenting. Nice blog, Nate! Yeah, I saw "Death Proof", my gf told me to watch it and I did and it was horrible. I don't know if I was watching the extended version or not. It sure felt like it was extended... I think it's basically a movie for girls. Oh, but I liked "Planet Terror".
Flossin.

Deathproof
was a movie for people who wanted to watch live stunts with muscle cars I guess. The first hour of it reminded me of some of the safety films we had to watch in drivers ed up to and including when the cars collided and the body parts fly. Wear your seat belts kids and don't stick your leg out the window.

Yay Mini Marvels!
I'm glad it is doing so well, but if it is sold out it will be potentially difficult to replace the copy that was taken by the children (they are actually evil and love mini marvels). Also, Thank You for Smoking Rocks, The Brett Farve saga is somewhat aggravating, and pie is nice.
